I wanted to provide something beautiful and useful, with a light environmental footprint that gives back…
My name is Alexis and I run the Peoples Press Calendar Project alongside working as the Head of Careers at a comprehensive school in London. I originally studied art at college and then spent a number of years working in fashion retail setting up and running websites for Topshop and Urban Outfitters among others.
After having my children I set up my own creative company which I sold my share of in 2017. Wanting to work around my children I took a job at a secondary school where I slightly accidentally became the careers lead, but that is another story (I do like to tell pupils that a lot of careers really do happen by happy accident or chance meetings).
I am always busy coming up with ideas and creating… and was on the look out for a new venture…
The calendar project was staring me in the face…
Back in 2019 I was frustrated that my 7 year old son didn’t know the months of the year so I created a poster-planner calendar for him to have in his bedroom and added family birthdays and events to it.
I kept on creating calendars for him every year, and then when he started secondary school I decided to shade all the holiday days so he could clearly visualise how many holiday days there were…
As I worked in a school I then printed out a couple of versions for my school, one for my office and one for my boss, the director of sixth form. Then I did a version that the PTA could sell for a profit… I added in the dates that were already confirmed for the year ahead like sports day and parents’ evenings too
Families loved them as they could see all the dates - children loved them as they could see all their holiday days! And then the penny dropped.
I could make calendars for other schools too and they could sell them and make money for their PTAs.
And so the Calendar Project was born.
Having been involved with school PTAs over the last 10+ years I know that an admin light fundraiser is like gold-dust.
I’ve really enjoyed the challenge of trying to create the simplest fundraiser ever and I think that it should be the easiest money you will ever make as a school.
With no upfront costs - there is nothing stopping you!
All you need to do is…
Choose a design (and that’s fun)
Let us know your term dates (and I’ve created a super simple form for that which will take you no-more that 4 minutes to fill in)
Then we will send you everything you need to easily promote your calendar - which will take you no time, I promise!
There is nothing to lose, no upfront costs, no sending artwork or scanning or asking for additional volunteers or baking cakes or washing second hand uniform or setting up stalls (unless you WANT to promote your calendar on a stall at a summer or Christmas fair).
So what are you waiting for?
Choose the calendar design that suits your school, tell us your dates and we’ll take care of the rest!
